💼 Product Update — 22/9/2025

Autopilot is live

Welcome to our weekly product update. Each week, we highlight Briefcase’s latest features and AI improvements designed to make bookkeeping and accounting workflows simpler and more efficient. Here’s what’s new.

AI Autopilot is now live

We’re pleased to share that AI autopilot is now turned on by default for all accounts. On the costs page you’ll see a new banner to show the autopilot status, an on/off switch and a toggle to filter for all autopublished transactions. As a reminder:

  • Autopilot requires at least 3 historically consistent transactions to be published in Briefcase before it will autopublish similar ones.

  • We consider the full document context, including previous coding of category, VAT, description, amount, number of line items and tracking codes when deciding if a document can be autopublished.

  • Autopilot learns. If a transaction is edited (in Briefcase or in your ledger) after it’s been autopublished, Autopilot will learn not to autopublish it next time. On the other hand, if you find yourself repeatedly publishing similar transactions without making any edits, Autopilot will learn to publish these automatically.

In case you missed it, here’s some other features we launched in the past couple months:

  • Prepayment enhancements

    • One-off prepayment (e.g. a plane ticket bought today for a flight in 6 months) detection and automatic schedule creation is now supported

    • Ability to mark a transaction as a prepayment from the transaction details page

    • Tracking codes are now adjusted alongside category in prepayment schedules

    • The monthly closing balance is now shown for all prepayments on the tracker page and CSV export

  • CIS invoice support

  • Keyboard shortcuts (press ‘?’ [shift + /] in Briefcase see the full list)

  • Light mode (press ‘ [apostrophe] to toggle between light and dark mode)

  • Full line item extraction (press ‘l’ [lower case L] to toggle between single and multi line in the transaction details page)

  • Bank statement extraction

  • Email body is now stored as an additional attachment that can be viewed in Briefcase alongside forwarded transactions

  • Company registration name is now shown in VAT validation modal
