Welcome to our weekly product update. Each week, we highlight Briefcase’s latest features and AI improvements designed to make bookkeeping and accounting workflows simpler and more efficient. Here’s what’s new.

Automated Tracking Categories / Class

Briefcase now automatically assigns tracking categories to your transactions for both Xero and QuickBooks clients, for both cost and sales transactions.

When you upload invoices and receipts, Briefcase will suggest the category automatically if there is enough evidence. The system looks at:

  • Transaction details: supplier/customer information, amounts, dates, descriptions, and account categories

  • Historical patterns: how similar transactions were categorised in the past

  • Document content: invoice text to find explicit mentions

We'll soon be adding support for additional context on upload (e.g., from WhatsApp, email body, or manual notes) to help categorise your transactions even more accurately.

Our AI only applies suggestions when it's highly confident they're correct and provides an explanation for each prediction.
